TV News Producer

I have been a line producer since 2008, and have worked in the San Francisco market since 2009. Obviously, there are good days and bad days, but I absolutely love it. Spending each day crafting a newscast to bring to my viewers gives me purpose and a responsibility that I don’t take for granted. As a journalist I feel that my job is to serve the public and community by providing pertinent information through the power of storytelling. I understand that creating compelling stories is a team effort. One that is a craft but also requires research, persistence, and meticulousness.

RESUME

Dec. 2020- Present: KTVU 10pm/11pm Fill-in News Producer

Along with being the 6pm News Producer, since December I have worked a split week, filling in on 10pm hour and 11pm half hour newscasts on Monday and Tuesdays. Not only is producing 90 minutes much more challenging, but the two are considered their own separate shows. In addition, the Ten O’Clock News is a Bay Area staple, and is the newscast that KTVU was built around. It continues to be the top rated newscast in the market, and typically beats out the competition combined. As the 10/11pm producer I help assign the four nightside reporters, manage writers, editors, weather, sports, and anchors- most of whom are continuing to work remotely from home due to the pandemic.

Oct. 2018- Present: KTVU 6pm News Producer

Responsible for the full hour newscast. It is regularly rated number 1 in its time slot. Collaborate with the 4pm, 5pm, & 7pm producers to decide reporters’ stories. Format a newscast that showcases the most relevant news of the day to inform viewers. Help to manage a team of writers and direct them to stories and video to assure all scripts are up-to-date. Transitioned to remote producing during the beginning of the pandemic, but became the only dayside producer to return to the station to booth the newscast starting in June.

Jun. 2016- Oct. 2018: KTVU Noon News Producer

Returned to the Noon Newscast as we unveiled a new set and anchor team for the full hour newscast. Formatted, stacked, wrote the show scripts, teases, headlines. Major stories included the Ghost Ship Warehouse fire, Trump’s victory in the Presidential Election, the wine country fires, the controversial Brock Turner case, and the sudden death of Mayor Ed Lee.

Sept. 2015: KTVU Middletown Field Producer- The Valley Fire

In the middle of my stint with the sports department I was called upon for breaking news coverage. A crew and I traveled to Middletown for an hour long newscast on the Valley Fire. At the time it was one of the most devastating that the area had seen, with nearly 2,000 structures destroyed. I helped coordinate the field anchors, gather elements, interviews, footage, and scout locations for the newscast. After the hour was over, we stayed on location to do live hits for the 5 and 6 o’clock newscasts.

Mar. 2015- Jun. 2016: KTVU Digital Sports Producer

As Golden State Warrior fever took hold across the Bay Area I transitioned to the sports department to help with all the extra coverage. Leading up to the team’s first championship title, I attended practices, media availabilities, pre-game warmups, post-game interviews, and oversaw the department’s social media activity. Helped produce coverage of the championship parade. Also covered Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco, as well as spring training specials on the SF Giants and Oakland A’s and training camp coverage of the Raiders and 49ers.

Oct. 2013- Mar. 2015: KTVU Noon News Producer

Responsible for the Noon newscast as it expanded from a 30 minute show to a full hour. Collaborated with morning show reporters on how to push their stories forward. Sometimes moved them to brand new stories that were just developing to help set the tone for the dayside coverage. Formated, stacked, and scripted the show. Wrote teases, headlines, bumps, and boothed.
